“…Previous studies have shown that inorganic carbon has a inhibition threshold of 36-45 mg L − 1 for AOB, while there is almost no limit for NOB [60,61]. In this study, the concentration of inorganic carbon (about 158-161 mg L − 1 , mainly carbonate [62] and bicarbonate [63]) in simulated seawater toilet flushing wastewater was consistent with that in seawater because it was prepared with natural sea salt. In addition, organics degradation and CO 2 supply from aeration can also supplement inorganic carbon in wastewater for autotrophic bacteria growth [60].…”

“…Similarly, water temperature, wind speed, and the airsea difference in the partial pressure of carbon dioxide ( pCO 2 ; which is a component of the inorganic carbon ECV) are important factors in determining the air-sea flux of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ; Watson et al, 2009). Ocean acidification is recognized as a major threat to the marine environment and methods for measuring ocean pH directly or indirectly via automated systems are just becoming available for use on ships (e.g., Shangguan et al, 2019). The water cycle drives tropical atmospheric circulation and is therefore a key component of climate and weather.…”

“…This method is proposed to be ready for implementation in sustained observations and internal consistency studies. 25,26 However, its implementation still needs to be validated by independent research groups.…”

“…In this regard, most studies would benefit from moving [CO 3 2– ] from its category of a derived variable to become the fifth measurable seawater CO 2 system variable, thus allowing efficient ways of approaching questions relative to CaCO 3 cycling from [CO 3 2– ] direct determinations. , To this end, Byrne and Yao first proposed a spectrophotometric method to determine [CO 3 2– ] in seawater. This method is proposed to be ready for implementation in sustained observations and internal consistency studies. , However, its implementation still needs to be validated by independent research groups.…”
