Automatic CDR Estimation for Early Glaucoma Diagnosis

Abstract: Glaucoma is a degenerative disease that constitutes the second cause of blindness in developed countries. Although it cannot be cured, its progression can be prevented through early diagnosis. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm for automatic glaucoma diagnosis based on retinal colour images. We focus on capturing the inherent colour changes of optic disc (OD) and cup borders by computing several colour derivatives in CIE L∗a∗b∗ colour space with CIE94 colour distance. In addition, we consider spatial in… Show more

“…22 Various new AA systems are being developed for possible future use in glaucoma screening. [23][24][25] Each system employs different techniques for glaucoma detection on colour fundus photographs. Some used OCT imaging for CDR calculation while another used a combination of structural and non-structural features for glaucoma detection.…”

“…In M. A. Fernandes Granero et. al [3] CDR is used for glaucoma diagnosis. The ROI is cropped and they used image derivatives to identify optic disc and cup boundaries and the model is evaluated using six classifiers namely, Simple tree (ST), Bagged tree (BT), Complex tree (CT), Linear discriminant (LD), Quadratic discriminant (QD), and KNN.…”

“…Compared with OCT, colour fundus image is less expensive and more frequently used for detecting glaucoma. The optic cup (OC) to optic disc (OD) ratio (CDR) of fundus images is an important indicator in the screening and diagnosis of glaucoma [9]. As shown in Fig.…”
