Automatic classification of digestive organs in wireless capsule endoscopy videos

Abstract: Wireless Capsule Endoscopy (WCE) allows a physician to examine the entire small intestine without any surgical operation. With the miniaturization of wireless and camera technologies the ability comes to view the entire gestational track with little effort. Although WCE is a technical breakthrough that allows us to access the entire intestine without surgery, it is reported that a medical clinician spends one or two hours to assess a WCE video. It limits the number of examinations possible, and incur considera… Show more

“…In the reference [48], the textural features captured by Gabor filters are exploited in the problem of duodenum discrimination. The locations of the esogastric junction, pylorus, and ileo-cecal valve are estimated with an algorithm based on MPEG-7 visual descriptors in [49], while the color change pattern is exploited to detect different organs in [50].…”

“…Concept for multispectral tissue classification. After multispectral image acquisition, noise is removed and the resulting image is cropped into patches (1). From each of these patches the local binary pattern texture feature and the average spectrum are calculated (2) and fed into a support vector machine model to classify the organ characterized by the patch under investigation (3).…”
