This paper claims that effectiveness of automatic tools for evaluating web site accessibility has to be itself evaluated, given the increasingly important role that these tools play. The paper presents a comparison method for a pair of tools that takes into account correctness, completeness and specificity in supporting the task of assessing the conformance of a web site with respect to established guidelines. The paper presents data acquired during a case study based on comparing LIFT Machine with Bobby. The data acquired from the case study is used to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the comparison method. The conclusion is that even though there is room for improvement of the method, it is already capable of providing accurate and reliable conclusions

Usability is of significant importance for any interactive software. In the mobile domain, applications face more challenges to deliver good experiences to end users due to the characteristics and usage of mobile devices in ubiquitous computing contexts. The situation may be exacerbated for mobile health applications since the target population or domain may impose even stricter usability requirements.Heuristic Evaluation (HE) or guideline review has proven itself to be an e↵ective approach among many usability evaluation methods. Organizing heuristic evaluation by usability professionals, however, can be costly and time consuming, particularly for frequent prototype updates generated by fast iterations. Manual inspection by human experts also su↵ers from scalability issues as mobile applications often need to run on a diverse set of hardware platforms.To help find potential usability problems at an early stage and reduce the workload of human usability experts, we propose an inspection framework to conduct automated guideline reviews of mobile health applications. The inspection framework is based on the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) usability guidelines for mHealth applications. First, we translate the high level descriptions of usability guidelines into operationalized metrics that can be measured by software. Second, we demonstrate the translation is meaningful by providing detailed analysis of suggested metrics and real-world case studies. We hope this framework can be used to enforce a minimum bar for the usability of mobile health applications and further adapted when new products in the field are developed.

a b s t r a c tStructuring of the content is an important step in web site design, affecting greatly navigability and the overall user experience. Automated support of this task is the object of this paper. AutoCardSorter, a computational tool that supports clustering of the web pages of a site, is introduced. The proposed tool-based methodology uses semantic similarity measures, such as latent semantic analysis, and hierarchical clustering algorithms, in order to suggest suitable information navigation schemes. In the paper, after introducing AutoCardSorter design and functionality, three independent studies are discussed. The studies, that were conducted in order to validate the proposal, compared the proposed method with the established card-sorting approach, in different domains. It was found that substantial gain in effectiveness was achieved without expense in the quality of results, therefore, reducing the required time and human resources.
