Automating unobtrusive personalized services in ambient media environments

Abstract: In the age of ambient media, people are surrounded by lots of physical objects (media objects) for rendering the digital world in the natural environment. These media objects should interact with users in a way that is not disturbing for them. To address this issue, this work presents a design and automation strategy for augmenting the world around us with personalized ambient media services that behave in a considerate manner. That is, ambient services are capable of adjusting its obtrusiveness level (i.e., t… Show more

“…1) Possible solutions: In [24] simple message flows in BPMN between IoT tasks and human tasks have been proposed to facilitate co-existent resource communication. A more advanced approach can be found in [25], where the authors propose considerate notifications which interact with users in a way that is not disturbing for the user. They provide a possibility to personalise and adjust the level of obtrusiveness of the notifications.…”

“…Gil et al 10 and Serral et al 11 extended this framework into the AdaptIO (Adaptive Interaction Obtrusiveness) framework (see Figure 1). AdaptIO was proposed to build ubiquitous and mobile systems capable of adapting its services’ interaction obtrusiveness according to the user’s situational context.…”

“…To that extent, it uses the information of the user's profile, device's features and context information. The user's profile is initially created by means of user modeling techniques, using for example the "Personas" models as explained in [46]. Personas provide a framework for describing the target audience in a way useful to design systems and personalize them.…”
