Automation of test case derivation in respect to test purposes

Abstract: Test case derivation and test verdicts specification in respect to given test purposes are an important issue in conformance testing. Since test purposes are commonly expressed in an informal wayan automation of this process is not possible. In this paper, we show how this process can be automated for restricted classes of test purposes using a knowledge-based approach. Our approach is founded on a partial formalization of the test purposes that permits an automated derivation of test cases and the deduction o… Show more

“…One is to generate test cases in respect to test purposes (Guerrouat and Konig 1996). A test case is derived from a test purpose which represents a control flow of the protocol.…”

“…Therefore, formalization of the test purposes and automatic test case generation from the formally described test purposes are required. In (Guerrouat and Konig 1996), test cases are generated automatically for restricted classes of test purposes using a knowledge based techniques.…”

“…Other approaches for test case derivation propose e.g. a step-wise knowledgebase development of test cases also starting with some test purpose formalisation (Guerrouat 1996) or even request an enhanced protocol model (Konig 1997). The aim in the latter proposal is to consider testability during protocol engineering to decrease the efforts in protocol testing (e.g.…”
