Automotive Lithium-Ion Batteries: Dangers and Safety Measures

Abstract: Due to various economic, environmental, and political pressures, the automotive industry is beginning to put greater research efforts towards developing alternative energy storage technologies for vehicles, with a particular focus on lithium-ion batteries. This new technology poses new dangers which requires new technology to mitigate these dangers. Current and immediately next-generation safety concerns and technologies are reviewed.
