Automotive Technology Evolved by Electrical and Electronic Systems

Abstract: Automotive electrical and electronic systems, e.g. EHV, FCV, future X-By-Wire, have recently been introduced or planned in place of mechanical systems. Drivers are demanding environmental performance (fuel consumption and weight reduction), safety and comfort. For general use of the new technologies, evolution of the automotive technology is required, including energy conversion efficiency improvement, size and weight reduction of components, cost reduction and high reliability. This paper discusses and summar… Show more

“…In this study, it was assumed that the stator coil resistance was reduced 30% by the coil end resistance reduction of winding form and improvement of coil cross sectional area. In order to discuss regeneration on improved efficiency contour of the alternator, the relationship between 3-phase Input power and output power in the Alternator can be expressed by equation (1). Where, V is effective value of the input line voltage, I is effective value of the input phase current, E d is output DC voltage, I d is output DC current, cosϕ is the power factor.…”

“…The power network is gaining an important role in a vehicle [1]- [3]. While large electrical power consumption causes poor fuel economy, simultaneously, large electrical power network infrastructure has a possibility for fuel economy improvement simultaneously.…”

“…It is internationally agreed that 288 V or similar voltages will be used as a power source for so-called strong HVs such as Prius, and FCVs, while 42 V or similar voltages (three times the conventional 14 V) will be used as an international standard for X-by-Wire and power actuators. 'The approach of using the right voltage for the right situation' makes the most sense in terms of efficiency and energy saving in automobiles [3].…”

“…4). We need to develop effective use of exhaust heat and further increase the combustion efficiency [3]. Automobile energy-saving is concerned with how to use less fossil fuel to run the vehicle resulting in fuel economy improvement, a process we call as 'vehicle energy management'.…”
