Autonomous chaos of exciton-polariton condensates

Abstract: We study the formation of chaos and strange attractors in the order parameter space of a system of two coupled, non-resonantly driven exciton-polariton condensates. The typical scenario of bifurcations experienced by the system with increasing external pumping consists of (i) formation of π-synchronised condensates at low pumping, (ii) symmetry breaking pitchfork bifurcation leading to unequal occupations of the condensates with non-trivial phase difference between them, (iii) loss of the stability of all fixe… Show more

“…In other words, it is the imaginary (non-Hermitian) part from the overlap integrals between two wave functions and the potential with which they interfere Ψ|V (r)|Ψ . Dissipative coupling is responsible for emergence of the weak lasing regime [32,35], limit cycles [39,40], and chaos [41]. As discussed in the context of Eq.…”

“…3B), and even at higher powers it can eventually attain again a synchronized state (SFP) through a Hopf bifurcation from the limit cycle with polarization orthogonal to that observed at low powers (30). Depending on the chosen parameters, before (iii) the system may go first through a chaotic region (46). Indications of this can be observed in Fig.…”
