Autonomously Functioning Thyroid Nodule Associated with Thyrotoxic Periodic Paralysis

Abstract: Abstract. Thyrotoxic periodic paralysis (TPP) is mainly associated with Graves' disease but rarely with autonomously functioning thyroid nodule (AFTN). We herein report a case of AFTN associated with TPP in which the latter resolved after 131 I therapy for the former. We analyzed the genes encoding thyrotropin receptor (TSHR), the α-subunit of the stimulatory G protein (Gsα), calcium channel CACNA1S and potassium channel KCNE3, and found that the patient does not carry the known mutations in these genes. Where… Show more

“…Sıklıkla Graves hastalığı ile ilişkilidir (4,10). Fakat Jod-Basedow fenomeni, tiroiditler, tiroid hormon kullanımı, soliter toksik tiroid nodülü, TSH salgılayan hipofizer adenom, radyoaktif iyot tedavisi ve Amiodaron ilişkili tirotoksikozda da tanımlanmıştır (11)(12)(13)(14)(15)(16). Olgumuz Graves hastalığı tanısıyla 1 yıl kadar antitiroid ilaç kullanmıştı ve Graves hastalığının nüksü esnasında Hipokalemik Periyodik Paraliz tanısı aldı.…”
