Availability and Use of Information Technologies in Nigerian University Libraries

Abstract: Reports a questionnaire survey which identifies information technology presently available within Nigerian University Libraries. The survey also examines the use of IT and benefits derived from it. Discusses constraints on availability and use of IT in Nigerian University Libraries.

“…It is hoped that the present study has contributed to the field of DL management especially in developing countries like Iran. According to Igwe (1986) and Abifarin (1993), in Nigeria, the major limitation for establishing DLs are financial sources and lack of required equipment, while the most important difficulties from the librarians' perspective in the present study are lack of enough equipment and untrained personnel and a lack of sufficient training programmes. The skills identified in the literature review should be acquired by all library and information professionals, as this is the most effective way to solve the above problem.…”
