Dentin Hypersensitivity (DH) is a condition that affects a large portion of the population, DH causes acute painful symptoms that can profoundly affect the individual's quality of life since it has a multifactorial etiology and, in many cases, is related directly to the diet performed by the person and his∕her oral hygiene habits. It is important to highlight that dentin sensitivity and dentin hypersensitivity are different situations, the first being a physiological situation and the second a pathological condition which requires treatment to stop the painful symptoms. This work aims to explore the causes, symptoms and treatment options of Dentin Hypersensitivity. A descriptive narrative literature review was carried out about Dentin Hypersensitivity using, as a bibliographical basis, scientific articles available on the online databases BVSAlud, Lilacs, Scielo, PUBMed and Google Scholar, published between 2015 and 2024 and available in Portuguese and/or English. After analyzing all the material used as a bibliographical basis for the development of this work, it is concluded that it is extremely important that dental surgeons have knowledge about Dental Hypersensitivity since this condition affects a considerable portion of the population and causes acute painful symptoms which affects the quality of life of individuals considerably.
