Average carbon content change during gas-solid decarburization of 2 mm iron sheet with a high carbon content

Abstract: The average carbon content after decarburization is an important criterion in judging the feasibility of the solid-state steelmaking process. To investigate the change mechanism of the average carbon content, the gas-solid decarburization of 2 mm iron sheet in weak oxidizing atmosphere (Ar + H2 + H2O) at 1293, 1353, and 1413 K is studied. The influences of decarburization time and temperature are considered. Increasing both the temperature and time can enhance decarburization. The gas-solid decarburization rea… Show more

“…Thus, a new ultrashort process, the S 3 process has been proposed. [93][94][95][96][97][98][99] Figure 15 shows the main steps of the S 3 process. The BF or molten reduced iron undergoes off-furnace pretreatment and alloying (hot metal dephosphorization, alloying, 2.0-3.8 wt% carbon), and is then directly solidified by a two-roll continuous caster or other thin strip continuous caster (e.g., 1.0-3.0 mm).…”

“…These inclusions and bubbles often originate from the decarburization and oxidation of liquid metal, and the oxygen content in liquid metal with a high carbon potential is low. Thus, a new ultrashort process, the S 3 process has been proposed 93–99 …”

“…Cheng R studied the gas-solid decarburization of 2 mm iron plates in weak oxidizing atmospheres of 1293, 1353 and 1413 K. His purpose is to study the mechanism of average carbon content change, considering the effects of decarburization time and temperature, and at the same time increase Temperature and time can enhance decarburization ability. But this method is not particularly affordable, and the actual cost is too high [3].…”
