Avulsion fracture of the medial epicondyle caused by arm wrestling

Abstract: Fractures occurring in teenagers during arm wrestling usually involve the distal humerus and appear as a fracture of the medial epicondyle. We studied eight male patients, aged 13 to 15 years, with such fractures. All fractures involved the right hand and occurred while the patients were in the final stages of winning a match in a formal competition. Three fractures occurred during an official competition and the other five occurred during a match between friends. One patient suffered from ulnar nerve paresis … Show more

“…An athlete with a good physical condition is the one who developed his reflexes, controls his muscle strength and entire body better and accordingly has a higher performance, and develops this success consistently. Exercises that strengthen the muscles, develop the respiratory and circulatory system and increase the body flexibility are those paid most attention in physical training program of arm wrestling (Nyska et al, 1992).…”

“…Several cases of fractures of the medial epicondyle [3,4] and the humeral shaft [2,[5][6][7] sustained during arm wrestling were described. A fracture of the humerus due to arm wrestling was first reported in 1975 [8].…”
