With the increasing of mining depth, the surface and underground geological conditions have undergone great changes. The updating investigations mostly depend on the conventional means which has constrained the mine production on in-depth understanding of the geological terrain. So it is urgent to carry out the research work. The use of remote sensing techniques and auxiliary data to carry out the research work provide the basic data and technological support for the updating methods of mining area terrain by quickly, accurately getting knowledge of mining geology and environment information. This study updates the surface topography of a mine in Henan by use of the high-resolution data .The main contents are as follows: 1) pre-processing the data(geometric correction, radiometric correction); 2) using Laplace filtering arithmetic combined with corrosion operation and edge detection technology to semi-automatic or automatic extract the houses, roads on the fusion of high-resolution QUICKBIRD data. There have been problems such as the long time of the cycle of work, too much capital investment, the large interference from human factor and the slow updates, which have constrained the mine production on in-depth understanding of the geological terrain. So it is difficult to meet a variety of production such as applications of mine area, which has brought a great impact on the mining production protection and technological development.Satellite remote sensing data are usually used to analyze the spatial distribution pattern of geological structures and generally serve as a significant means for the identification of alteration zones [1] . However, these data are only information sources and are a mixture of "information" and "noise".Processing, analysis and information extraction from remote sensing data is necessary to provide useful information [2] .Quickly, accurately getting knowledge of mining geology and environment information and accessing the topographic characteristic are the essential basic data of the effective exploration of coal resources, safe production, rational use and protection of surface resources, so it is urgent to carry out the research work.Sponsored by soft science research projects of Shandong Province
