ObjectivesThe purpose of this study is to determine the role of emotional intelligence in the relationship between the stress perceptions of emergency medicine doctors and their organizational silence behaviors.MethodsData were collected digitally from 434 doctors working in emergency departments in Turkey. On the assumption that perceived stress was effective on organizational silence behavior and that emotional intelligence mediates this relationship, hypotheses were developed and a mediating effect model was established. The research model and hypotheses were shaped through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Hayes 4th model was used to test the research hypotheses. The research model was tested via SPSS Process v4.1 by Andrew F. Hayes.ResultsAccording to the correlation analysis to determine the relationship between the variables, it was determined that perceived stress was positively correlated with organizational silence behavior, emotional intelligence was negatively correlated with perceived stress, and emotional intelligence was negatively correlated with organizational silence. As a result of the mediating effect model test, it was determined that emotional intelligence had a statistically significant mediating effect in the effect of perceived stress on organizational silence.ConclusionWithin the framework of the findings, it is thought that emotional intelligence is a key variable in turning the negative energy between stress and silence into positive.

Background This systematic review evaluates occupational health within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, focusing on ergonomic, physical, chemical, and biological hazards. It identifies significant impacts of these hazards across various professions and underscores the highlights for region-specific strategies and further research. Methods A comprehensive search in Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science databases until October 2023 targeted occupational health studies in the GCC, adhering to PRISMA guidelines and NIH Quality Assessment Tools. The protocol was registered on PROSPERO (CRD42023465909). Results From 2202 articles screened, 202 were included, with publications distributed as follows: Saudi Arabia (121), United Arab Emirates (26), Kuwait (20), Oman (15), Qatar (13), and Bahrain (7). Findings indicate that ergonomic hazards, characterized by musculoskeletal disorders, are influenced by job roles and work environments. Physical hazards, particularly needlestick injuries, eye safety concerns, and risks from extreme temperatures and radiation, were notable across the region. Chemical hazards, including exposure to pesticides, cement, and petrochemicals, were identified as significant health risks, necessitating better safety measures. Biological hazards, evidenced in studies from Oman, UAE, and Saudi Arabia, highlighted the risks from infectious agents and parasites, stressing the need for effective prevention and hygiene practices. Conclusion The review advocates for the urgent development of comprehensive health policies to mitigate occupational hazards in the GCC. It highlights the need for collaborative efforts to address ergonomic challenges, enhance protective measures, and respond to chemical and biological risks effectively. Region-specific strategies, ongoing research, and technological advancements are crucial for ensuring workforce safety in these evolving environments.

Background Occupational hazards among healthcare workers (HCWs) present serious risks, from infectious diseases to physical and chemical dangers, along with psychological stress, all of which threaten their health and safety. This study aims to identify the unique challenges and hazards encountered by radiology technologists in in Saudi Arabia by assessing the key factors contributing to these risks. Methods A descriptive questionnaire study was conducted in January-February 2023, targeting 75 radiology technologists at King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC), Jeddah, with participants recruited via non-probability convenience sampling and invited to complete a widely recognized questionnaire previously used among radiographers. Descriptive statistics were calculated, and the Kruskal–Wallis H -test was conducted to examine the relationships between demographic factors and different aspects of occupational hazards. Results Of the 75 technologists contacted, 63 responded, resulting in an 84% participation rate. Workload, work shifts, and patient-related factors are major contributors to occupational hazards, surpassing technologist-specific and organizational elements. Additionally, 68.3% cited rigid leadership and unequal treatment as aggravating factors, while insufficient staffing, inadequate protective devices, and patient interaction were also significant concerns. Over 60% identified bending, lifting heavy patients, prolonged radiation exposure, and frequent walking as major hazard sources. Conclusion Key occupational hazards factors facing radiology technologists include high workloads, work shifts, and patient-related issues, with 68.3% citing rigid leadership and unequal treatment as exacerbating risks. Insufficient staffing and protective devices, along with demanding work conditions, further heighten these hazards. This study emphasizes the need for targeted interventions in staffing, resources, and culture to improve radiology technologists’ safety.
