Ayvalıkemer (Sillyon) historical masonry arch bridge: a multidisciplinary approach for structural assessment using point cloud data obtained by terrestrial laser scanning (TLS)

Abstract: Historical structures are cultural heritage constituents that convey the traces and characteristic features of civilizations to the present days. One of these structures, which are among the monumental artefacts, are historical bridges. To protect historical buildings, 3D photogrammetric documentation of these structures, detailed determination of geometric and material properties and performing computer-aided structural analysis using appropriate modelling techniques are very important. The aim of this study … Show more

“…For example, Pepi et al [154] combined advanced measurement procedures, such as close-range photogrammetry based on drones and environmental vibration testing, to propose a finite element model correction method for severely damaged historical masonry structures and to guide the structure damage assessment. Batar et al [155] used terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) technology to determine the geometric shape of the bridge with high precision. Based on the obtained point cloud data, a three-dimensional CAD-based structural solid model was established.…”

“…Poisson surface reconstruction or Delaunay triangulation are common algorithms for such approaches (Tucci et al, 2018;Mugnai et al, 2019;Bartoli et al, 2020), along with voxelization-based algorithms (Castellazzi et al, 2015(Castellazzi et al, , 2017Guan et al, 2020). Techniques that approximate the surface of a structure include mathematical approaches such as the use of b-splines or polynomial surfaces (Bertolini-Cestari et al, 2012;Conde et al, 2017;Cuartero et al, 2019;Xu and Neumann, 2020;Xu and Yang, 2020;Batar et al, 2021).…”

“…Damages are determined at the ends of the infill wall. Batar et al offered an influential, confidential, and quick multidisciplinary method for the analysis of HABs [56]. For this aim, Terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) was chosen to define the bridge geometry with high accuracy.…”

“…For this aim, Terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) was chosen to define the bridge geometry with high accuracy. At the end of the study, Batar et al offers very quick and extremely precise information for defining the structural geometry that will offer the essential investigation [56]. As mentioned above, only rare researches offered nowadays concern themselves with the seismic assessment of HAB.…”
