B mode, Doppler and ultrasound elastography imaging on active trigger point in women with myofascial pain syndrome treated by dry needling

Abstract: Introduction. Myofascial pain syndrome is a common regional pain characterized with myofascial trigger points (MTrP) in the skeletal muscle fibers. Deep dry needling (DDN) is an effective method used by variety of clinicians in deactivation of these points. The aim of present study was to determine clinical effectiveness and to evaluate gray scale ultrasonography, Sono Doppler and ultrasound elastography images of upper trapezius following the DDN. Methods. Thirteen women with MTrP in the upper trapezius (28.8… Show more

“…Meanwhile, it has been proved that masseter muscle thickness could be accurately measured by ultrasonography [ 27 ]. B mode, Doppler and ultrasound elastography imaging has been used for locating active trigger point for dry needling in treatment of female patients with myofascial pain syndrome [ 28 ]. It has been demonstrated real-time ultrasonography could even be used for non-symptomatic females, with regarding to the measurement of morphometric features of upper trapezius, its stiffness and blood supply, which could provide numerical reference value and objective assessment for clinical plans [ 29 ].…”

“…Recent studies proved that ultrasound permits the quantitative assessment of the excursion and thickness of the respiratory muscles to quantify their function (Cala et al, 1998;Sferrazza Papa et al, 2016;Yoshida et al, 2019;Bedewi et al, 2021;Kang et al, 2021). Different ultrasonic techniques have been validated through several studies (Adigozali et al, 2016;Tahan et al, 2016;Bedewi et al, 2021). Stroke disrupts multiple functions (Benditt and Boitano, 2013).…”
