Onychocryptosis, or ingrown nail, is a common condition in which the nail plate penetrates the nail fold, often resulting in inflammation and pain. Nonsurgical and surgical treatments are utilized, but patient satisfaction with these therapies has not been well studied. The purpose of this study was to systematically review the available literature describing patient-reported outcomes of onychocryptosis treatments. We performed a search of the literature published prior to May 22, 2019. Articles were included in the review if primary data were presented, patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) were used, and nail involvement was specifically examined. From the initial search, 18 studies were included in the final analysis. Patients receiving both nonsurgical and surgical interventions reported high levels of overall satisfaction; however, most studies used ad hoc measures rather than validated PROMs, providing little granular information on the impact of treatment on quality of life (QoL). This review affirms that treatment for onychocryptosis results in satisfactory outcomes for patients; however, increased efforts are needed to understand the impact of therapy on patient QoL as assessed by validated outcome measure that accurately assess patients' cosmetic, physical, and social difficulties.

Background: Ingrowing Nail is an ailment in the toe area. This problem is observed in 20% of the population, in all age groups, but most often occurs in teenagers and young adults. The process of ingrowing nail stimulates natural defense mechanisms of the body in the form of inflammation and severe pain. Aims: The aim of this paper was to make the VHO-Osthold® Perfect buckle effective as an alternative to nail plate surgery and to determine the patient's comfort during this method of treatment. Patients/Methods: A descriptive case study conducted in a 15-year-old patient who had ingrowing nails in the big toes of both feet. Results: It has been shown that the VHO-Osthold® Perfect buckle therapy constitutes an effective method for ingrowing nails and one in a few conservative methods in orthonyxia, as an alternative to surgery. Conclusions: The study and clinical experience confirm that the therapy of ingrowing nails with the VHO-Osthold® Perfect buckle is painless and noninvasive. This treatment can be safely and effectively carried out by a qualified podiatrist or cosmetologist in podological practice. Ingrown toenails, clinically known as onychocryptosis, represent a prevalent nail pathology. The clinical manifestation involves symptoms typical for a foreign body reaction and in severe cases, tissue hypertrophy with complications may occur. Key risk factors include improper nail care, trauma, obesity, tight footwear, poor foot hygiene, and genetic predisposition. The condition predominantly affects individuals between the first and the third decades of life and older adults, with a predilection for the great toe, especially the lateral skin fold. The Heifetz and Scholz classifications delineate the stages of ingrown toenails based on severity. Therapeutic approaches range from conservative procedures, such as taping, dental floss, gutter treatment, cotton nail cast, braces and super elastic wire to surgical interventions like partial or total nail avulsion, matricectomy and advanced techniques like the Vandebos procedure or the Winograd procedure. Although many studies have analysed available treatment methods, there is no consensus among specialists regarding the best therapeutic strategy. Complications include paronychia, infection, and scarring. A comprehensive therapeutic approach should consider clinical severity, patient preferences, and both conservative and surgical interventions, emphasizing the importance of larger randomized clinical trials to establish definitive guidelines.
