Baicalein modulates the radiosensitivity of cervical cancer cells in vitro via miR-183 and the JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway

Abstract: Background. Increasing radiosensitivity of cancer cells can enhance the efficacy of cervical cancer treatment.Objectives. This study evaluated the potential roles and mechanism of baicalein in regulating the radiosensitivity of cervical cancer cells in vitro. Materials and methods.Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was used to assess miR-183 expression in End1/E6E7 cells, Hela cells and Hela cells irradiated with X-ray (0 Gy, 1 Gy, 3 Gy, 5 Gy, and 10 Gy). Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) met… Show more

“…This study was performed assuming SBRT, in which a single exposure provides a higher dose than conventional radiotherapy ( Marcrom et al, 2017 ; Jardel et al, 2020 ; Sarudis et al, 2021 ; Ugurluer et al, 2021 ). Since Lei et al (2021) reported that the survival rate of HeLa was less than 50% after a single 10-Gy irradiation, we selected a single high-dose of 10-Gy irradiation. In our experiments, cancer cells after a single high-dose irradiation have shown a tendency to excrete anticancer drugs as a foreign body.…”

“…Previous reports pointed out that decreased expression of miR‐424‐3p contributes to baicalein‐mediated cell growth suppression, apoptosis induction, and cisplatin sensitivity promotion in A549 and H460 non‐small‐cell lung cancer cells (Lu et al, 2018). Baicalein inhibits cell viability and epithelial–mesenchymal transition and induces apoptosis of Hela cervical cancer cells through upregulation of miR‐183 (Lei et al, 2021). Moreover, baicalein treatment causes inhibition of proliferation, migration, and invasion and induction of apoptosis in MG‐63 and Saos‐2 osteosarcoma cells by inducing miR‐183 expression (Zhang et al, 2018).…”

“…EMT inhibition was detected simultaneously. Upregulation of miR-183 through the inactivation of the JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway was considered the mechanism of baicalein in cervical cancer cells [ 71 ].…”
