Balanced dual‐segment cylindrical dielectric resonator antennas for ultra‐wideband applications

Abstract: Abstract:In this paper, balanced dual segment cylindrical dielectric antennas (CDRA) with ultra wide-band operation are reported. First a T-shaped slot and L-shaped microstrip feeding line are suggested to furnish a balanced coupling mechanism for feeding two DRAs.Performance of the proposed antenna was analyzed and optimized against the target frequency band. The proposed antenna was then modified by adding a C-shaped strip to increase the gain. The performances of both balanced antennas were characterized an… Show more

“…Figure 1 shows that the two inverted L-sections work as a half wavelength dipole that is fed by the inverted T-shaped slot. As it was shown in [13], the length of the dipole can be given by ( L D = 2 L f2 + x ). This printed dipole is not adequately thin (L D / W f1 ≤10), and thus its resonance frequency can be found as in [13]:…”

“…If DR has low electrical permittivity with low Q factor vice versa to give widen bandwidth. DRA has outstanding characteristics like ease to excitation, low cost, high radiation efficiency, low surface losses, and a compact antenna with widen bandwidth, less conduction losses [5][6][7][8][9] that are the advantages over microstrip patch antenna. Different shapes of the DRA are reported in the literature survey [9][10][11][12][13][14], and also introduced hollow rectangular DRA (HRDRA) have mechanically simple lightweight with several characteristics and proposed in 1993 [15][16].…”

“…The fractal structure offers wide impedance bandwidth which has been reported on rectangular, cylindrical and hemispherical DRAs [6,7]. Stacked DRA, dual-segment, hybrid DRA and slots in ground plane also well suited for improving the impedance bandwidth of DRA [8][9][10][11][12]. However, this makes the antenna bulky and less compact.…”
