High-density waste drilling fluid contains an abundance of recyclable weighting reagents, direct disposal can pollute the environment. In this paper, the primary mineral composition of a high-density waste drilling fluid from a well in the southwest oil and gas field was analyzed. This paper proposes β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) as a depressant for the recovery of barite from waste drilling fluid. The recovery process was investigated through inverse flotation experiments, and the mechanism was analyzed using zeta potential, contact angle analysis, and FTIR. The flotation experiments showed that under the SDS flotation system, when the pH was 9.0 and the amount of depressant β-CD was 900 g/t, the barite recovery and density reached the highest values, which were 87.41% and 4.042 g/cm3, respectively. Zeta potential experiments, contact angle analysis, and FTIR analysis indicate that β-CD adsorbed onto barite through enhancing the hydrophilicity of barite, electrostatic force adsorption, and strong adsorption, which could not be displayed by SDS through competitive adsorption. Furthermore, β-CD exhibited a selective inhibitory effect on barite and enabled reverse flotation. The mechanism model of the flotation separation process was established.

With the increase in the basic metal prices, including lead, in the global markets, the processing of this precious metal, particularly for low-grade deposits, has a high economic justification. Investigating the extraction of lead minerals, including galena which is one of the minerals associated with barite, is considered one of the products of barite by-products. The purpose of this research was to study on the potential of producing high-grade barite, and recovering lead concentrate as a by-product from the jig tailings of the Komsheche barite mine. The prepared sample was subjected to mineralogical studies, and the obtained results indicated that the sample contains barite, iron hydroxides and galena as the dominant minerals and the degree of liberation was 90-95% in the size of 100 microns. The work index of the sample was obtained by the standard bond ball mill which was 8.72 kWh/t, indicated that the sample was not hard. The lead and barite grades in sample were 0.34% and 64.83%, respectively. Considering the high specific gravity of lead and barite, the processing tests were carried out in 2 stages of primary pre-processing using Mozley multi-gravity separator and then enrichment by flotation approach. After the end of the Mozley tests, the grade of lead reached to 0.6%, some fines were removed, and the classified sample was prepared for the next stage, flotation. At the end, the grade of lead increased from 0.6% to 53% with a final recovery of 73.65% and separation efficiency was 73.48%. Also, the specific gravity and grade of barite reached from 3.9 g/cm3 and 67% to 4.4 g/cm3 and 95%, respectively. These values are remarkable and meet the needs of the industry.

The solid−liquid phase equilibria of the Ba 2+ //Cl − , S 2− , and OH − −H 2 O quaternary system and its three subternary systems at 298.15 K are studied via the isothermal solubility phase equilibrium method. The solubility data, liquid properties of density and pH, and phase diagrams of the ternary and quaternary systems are obtained. Solid species of Ba(OH) 2 •8H 2 O, BaCl 2 • 2H 2 O, Ba(OH)Cl•2H 2 O, and BaS exist in the quaternary system and corresponding ternary systems at 298.15 K. The four solid species build up two invariant points, one disproportionate and one proportionate, and four phase regions. The largest phase area is covered by Ba(OH)•8H 2 O, and the lowest water point is the proportionate invariant point saturated by BaCl 2 •2H 2 O, Ba(OH)Cl•2H 2 O, and BaS.
