Basalt fibers as functional additives in coating of textiles

Abstract: In the presented study, basalt fibers are used as additives in polymer coatings applied onto textiles substrates. As basalt fibers, short fibers with diameters of around 13 lm and with lengths in the range of 0.16-4 mm are used. As the textile substrate, a cotton fabric is used. The polymer coatings are based on acrylate or polyurethane. As a further coating additive, the silicate compound Aerosil is also evaluated. The realized coated materials are investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and by opt… Show more

“…However, fibrillation can be reduced by additives such as cross-linking agents or by selecting suitable reactive dyes [43,44]. Textile manufacturing and finishing generally offer a variety of options for reducing transmission in the UV and IR spectral ranges [45][46][47]. By this, protective properties against UV and IR light can be implemented.…”

“…Our investigation has the objective of evaluating the potential of enzymatic PLA hydrolysis for the recovery of commercial basalt fibers (about 53% SiO2, 16% Al 2 O 3 , 10% Fe 2 O 3 , 9% CaO, and 5% MgO) from UD tapes. Due to the interaction between a fiber/nanoparticle surface and a polymer matrix [14][15][16][17], the cohesion between fiber and polymer molecules has an important influence on the degradation of the polymer matrix. The effect of inserted nanoparticles (TiO 2 and ZnO) on the degradation of PLA with proteinase K was studied by Antonella, Marra et al The increase of TiO 2 content in the PLA matrix increased the degradation rate of PLA compared to neat PLA.…”
