Batch elimination of cationic dye from aqueous solution by electrocoagulation process

Abstract: Like other developing countries, Morocco has undergone a real industrial revolution that generates a huge amount of colored wastewater. Methylene blue (MB) could be considered as commonly model of cationic dyes that are widely used in industries. In the present work, the removal of MB was investigated in the presence of NaCl as electrolyte by electrocoagulation (EC) process. Parameters studied are the nature of electrodes, electrode spacing, initial dye concentration, agitation speed, applied current d… Show more

“…Sodium and chlorine are provided by the NaCl salt used to vary the conductivity of the solution during experience as shown in Figure 13 EDAX analysis affirms the presence of different metallic elements such as Na and S, the presence of those heavy metals reflects the power of Electrocoagulation process to transfer the pollution from water to the formed sludge. As reported by Titchou et al 30…”

“…Presence of OClions in wastewater enhances the formation of nickel hydroxide. Increase in the quantity of the supporting electrolyte results in producing of larger amount of sludge during the electrocoagulation process [18]. The sludge generated during the experiment was minimal and safely removed in each experiment and disposed.…”

“…The process's efficiency depends on operational parameters such as the applied current intensity, solution pH and conductivity, inter-electrode distance, electrode material, and configuration. The EC process can be summarized in three successive steps: (i) production of coagulants from the electro-dissolution of the sacrificial anode, (ii) destabilization of the particulate suspension and formation of flocs, and (iii) aggregation of the destabilized particulates and their sedimentation and flotation [24].…”
