Batch Sorption Study of Chromium (VI) On Dye Contaminated Soil

Abstract: Adsorption of Chromium on dye contaminated soil has been studied using batch adsorption technique. This study is carried out to examine adsorption capacity of Chromium on contaminated soil. The influence of contact time, pH, variation of amount of soil, initial Cr Concentration, and particle size also studied. Results revealed that adsorption rate initially increases and equilibrium reached about one hour. Further increase in contact time did not show significant change in equilibrium concentration. The Langmu… Show more

“…In addition, [22] established that Cr(VI) exists as π»πΆπ‘Ÿπ‘‚ and πΆπ‘Ÿ 𝑂 species at pH < 6.0 and πΆπ‘Ÿπ‘‚ at pH > 6.0. So that, at high pH value, there is ions competition between the anions πΆπ‘Ÿπ‘‚ and hydroxyl ions (𝑂𝐻 ) (which is predominant) for adsorption onto the adsorbent surface.…”

“…Moreover, π»πΆπ‘Ÿπ‘‚ ions forms of Cr(VI) are easily adsorbed in acidic pH environment (pHβ‰ˆ2) due to the reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III). The following reaction mechanism for adsorption of Cr(VI) at different pH was proposed according to the following (5) [22]:…”
