Abstract:Significant advances in the management of hypercholesterolemia have been made possible by the development of statins, 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG CoA) reductase inhibitors. More recently, statins have demonstrated benefit in primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease also in patients without hypercholesterolemia.
