“…Previous studies examined the role of BDNF pathway in suicidality, detecting an impact of BDNF gene expression on suicidal behaviour in adolescents (Yilmaz et al, 2021). In meta-analyses strongly heterogenic data for peripheral BDNF concentration were observed (Fusar-Poli et al, 2021) with medium effect-size.…”

“…Nevertheless, some studies also document practical results, which holds a promise for the future. From a representative sample of 100 children and adolescents who had previously attempted suicide, it was shown by comparison with 100 healthy children that the children with psychiatric distress had signifi cantly higher gene expression of BDNF (Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor) compared with the healthy children (28). Thus, it is clear that laboratory parameters will play some role in the future in the prediction of potential suicidal ideation.…”

“…Still, research results do not always support the idea that these dimensions of problem solving are involved in suicidality. For instance, some authors observed nonsignificant relationships between suicidality and problem-solving control (e.g., Priester & Clum, 1993; Yilmaz et al, 2021), problem-solving confidence (Yilmaz et al, 2021), and positive problem orientation (Fitzpatrick, Witte, & Schmidt, 2005). These findings call for a more thorough examination of the available data surrounding the relationship between adaptive problem-solving strategies and suicidality.…”
