Scheduling is one of the many skills required for advancement in today’s modern industry. The flow-shop scheduling problem is a well-known combinatorial optimization challenge. Scheduling issues for flow shops are NP-hard and challenging. The present research investigates a two-stage flow shop scheduling problem with decoupled processing and setup times, where a correlation exists between probabilities, job processing times, and setup times. This study proposes a novel heuristic algorithm that optimally sequences jobs to minimize the makespan and eliminates machine idle time, thereby reducing machine rental costs. The proposed algorithm’s efficacy is demonstrated through several computational examples implemented in MATLAB 2021a. The results are compared with the existing approaches such as those by Johnson, Palmer, NEH, and Nailwal to highlight the proposed algorithm’s superior performance.

This paper discusses the performance analysis of the alloy wheel plant (AWP). Till now researchers (1, 5, 9, 14, and 25) took assumption that only one failure at one time but this paper considered two failures at one time. The AWP mainly consists of four subsystems in series (Gdc Machine, Cutting Machine, Heat Treatment Machine and Shot Blasting Machine). The failure and repair rates are implicit to be constant and statistically independent. A transition diagram developed form the interrelationship among the working and failed state. Mathematical modeling of this system is done by applying markov-birthdeath processes. These equations are solved by recursive method and optimized reliability is calculated for failure and repair rates. The obtaining result is helpful to improve the overall performance of alloy wheel plant.

Obtaining system availability in an engineering design is trickish and challenging, especially when there is a reduction in capacity; however, it supports system maintainability. In this paper, a mathematical model for finding the availability under the reduced capacity has been proposed using the Chapman Kolmogorov approach with the help of transition diagrams associated with various possible combinations of probabilities. The paper observes the most critical subsystem by selecting variable failure and repair rates from different subsystems. It deals with the sensitivity analysis of a complex repairable threshing combined machine comprising subsystems in a series configuration and the threshing machine consisting of 21 subsystems. The device works in total capacity when the threshing drum and feeding Hooper work in the complete state, and the concave subsystem and blower work with reduced power. This study dealt with uncertain data and was analyzed analytically using a complex repairable system. The availability of the entire machine has been investigated analytically, and various availability indices such as subsystems extruder have been computed and reported. The study discovered that subsystem extruder has the most impact on some subsystems? overall system availability.
