“…Several structural elements behave as deep beams; walls of bunkers, load-bearing walls in buildings, transfer beams in high-rise buildings, and pile caps are the typical examples [1,2]. It is wellknown that the behavior of long-span beams (Bernoulli beams) is governed mainly by flexure that results in the bending stress which is higher compared to the shear stress as observed in previous experimental studies [3][4][5][6][7].…”

“…So far, compared with the experimental studies on this topic, the existing numerical studies on RC beams with an FRP-strengthened web opening are fewer. A total of 13 relevant FE studies can be found in the literature (Almusallam et al, 2018; Chin et al, 2012, 2016; Elsanadedy et al, 2019; Hassan et al, 2017; Hawileh et al, 2012; Jasim et al, 2020; Mahmoud, 2012; Mansour, 2021; Nie et al, 2020b, 2021a; Pimanmas, 2010; Salih et al, 2020), among which 11 studies were concerned with RC normal beams and the other two studies focused on RC deep beams. Based on the smeared crack approach, Pimanmas (2010) conducted two-dimensional (2-D) nonlinear FE analyses of RC beams with a rectangular web opening strengthened with near-surface mounted FRP bars.…”

“…Based on ANSYS (2007), Hawileh et al (2012) proposed a 3-D nonlinear FE model for RC deep beams with a rectangular web opening strengthened with externally bonded FRP sheets, U-jackets and complete wraps. By using ABAQUS (2012), Jasim et al (2020) conducted 3-D nonlinear FE studies of RC deep beams with a rectangular web opening strengthened with externally bonded FRP sheets.…”

“…Openings must be designed in deep RC beams for electrical and computer network cables, mechanical installations, or commuting from room to room [11][12][13][14]. These openings interrupt the transfer of compressive forces from the place of application of the load to the abutment and cause it to collapse, and many cases requiring retrofitting [15][16][17][18][19][20][21]. Zhang et al [22] investigated RC deep beams.…”
