The research focused on the employability of youth from marginalised community in Malaysia. Therefore, the research aimed in investigating impact of personal and social variables in influencing employability of the Malaysian youth from marginalised community. Quantitative research design that uses questionnaire were selected by researcher in conducting the research. Around 1181 Malaysian youth at the age range from 15 to 25 years old from marginalised community were selected to participate in this study. Probability sampling method were used in selecting the participants of the study. The study applied a correlational research design whereby a conceptual model was developed. Findings of the study showed positive association between personal variables (self-efficacy, self-esteem and self-determination) and employability of the Malaysian youth from marginalised community. Hence, youth with high self-efficacy, self-esteem and self-determination reported to have higher employability. Besides that, outcome of the study showed positive association between social variables (parental influences, socioeconomic status and role model) and employability of the Malaysian youth from marginalised community. A youth with higher parental influences, socioeconomic status and role model has higher employability. This research developed a model of theory that explains the influences of personal and social variables on employability of Malaysian youth from marginalised community. So, it can be an effective references and guidance in assisting the Malaysian youth from marginalised community towards career development.

Assessment is viewed as an internal and pivotal part of learning, where cultural factors, previous experiences, and future aspirations affect learners’ perceptions. In recent years, an increasing number of western universities have established their campuses or “dual” programmes in China. In the first Sino–Finnish programme, 293 Finnish and Chinese students participated in the same English for Specific Purposes (ESP) course. This study investigated students’ perceptions of assessment through an adapted version of the “Students’ Conceptions of Assessment” inventory, and it explored if the responses on each conception differ between the groups. The self-report inventory included statements based on four main conceptions of assessment: improvement, external factors, affect/benefit, and irrelevance, while open-ended questions were also included. The analysis of the open-ended questions raised the issues of teacher fairness, learner autonomy, and feedback. Additionally, differences appeared between the role of assessment and its relation to future aspirations, as well as the role of the parents. This study is a starting point for exploring the conceptions for distinct groups of students regarding assessment, providing a better understanding of students’ perceptions and discussing the implications for the language classroom.

Globalization, partly spurred by technological innovation such as artificial intelligence and robotics, continues to disrupt not only economic trajectories and business models, especially in the developed world, but also the knowledge and skill requirements for graduates entering the labor market. A growing corpus of literature on graduates’ employability has identified barriers to employment ranging from skills mismatch to a lack of soft skills. Although the literature on graduate employability is informative and illuminating, the role of university practices in fostering graduate employability in sub-Saharan Africa, and Tanzania in particular, has been less studied. Drawing on the broader employability literature, this article provides a comprehensive analysis of the best university practices in an effort to address the unemployment problems of university graduates in sub-Saharan Africa and Tanzania in particular. Four critical university best practices for fostering graduate employability are of interest—developing effective university—industry partnerships, aligning university education with a country’s development plans, regular university curriculum reviews, and strengthening quality assurance systems. Therefore, this article contributes to the higher education literature on the role of university practices in fostering graduate employability.
