Beliefs About Sleep and Perceived Sleep Quality are Associated With Quality of Life Among Perimenopausal Women

Abstract: Sleep disturbance is a common complaint among perimenopausal women and is hypothesized to contribute to compromises in their quality of life (QoL). We investigated the degree to which sleep disturbance and QoL were related and whether dysfunctional beliefs and attitudes about sleep were significantly associated with QoL ratings among a community sample of 168 perimenopausal women (88% return rate). Questionnaires included measures of subjective sleep quality, beliefs and attitudes about sleep, and QoL. Subject… Show more

“…It is composed by 40 mg of purified cytoplasmic extracts of pollen (GC Fem) and a mix of purified cytoplasmic extracts of pollens/pistils 120 mg (PI 82), in addition to 5 mg of vitamin e. Pharmacological activity of PCP is quite similar to that described for the ssrIs, producing relevant reduction of HFs and remarkable amelioration of life quality (10,11). It has been largely demonstrated PCP can not only directly induce improvement of HFs and quality of life and sleep, due to its capability to act as a natural serotonin reuptake inhibitor, but also indirectly impact on mood and global health through its positive effects on vasomotor symptoms, according to the "domino effect" (10,12,13).…”

“…[2][3][4][5] Thus, in addition to conventional therapies aimed at decreasing the frequency and/or severity of menopausal symptoms, women are in need of coping mechanisms that can assist in managing symptoms and maintaining overall quality of life. [6][7][8][9] Yoga as a Coping Strategy Crowe, Van Puymbroeck, and Schmid 10 proposed that yoga has the potential to serve as both a problem-focused and emotion-focused coping strategy, as defined by Lazarus and Fo l k m a n's 1 1 transactional theory of stress and coping. Support for yoga as a problem-focused coping mechanism is demonstrated in multiple studies that have identified yoga as a means for decreasing stress and improving physiological health.…”
