Beneficial activity of Enterococcus faecalis CECT7121 in the anti-lymphoma protective response

Abstract: Aims:  To study the anti‐tumour effects of Enterococcus faecalis CECT7121 on LBC cells, an aggressive murine T‐cell lymphoma that kills the host in 18 days when is intraperitoneally (i.p.) administrated. Methods and Results:  In vitro studies have shown that LBC cell proliferation was inhibited by Ent. faecalis CECT7121 stimulus in a dose‐dependent manner, inducing apoptosis. The production of ceramide was involved in the latter effect. To undertake in vivo studies, syngeneic BALB/c mice pre‐treated i.p. with … Show more

“…The decrease in the anti-OVA IgG1/IgG2a ratios observed in the group of animals treated with the bacterium accounted for a rise in the levels of specific IgG2a. The latter finding is in line with the pro-Th1 activity already reported for E. faecalis CECT7121 [19] [21] [22].…”

“…For example, Enterococcus faecalis is a typical probiotics, which has been shown to induce diverse beneficial activities in animal models, including the increased production of specific anti-Giardia intestinal IgA and blood IgG, 43 anti-lymphoma protective response, 44 prevention of ovalbumin-induced allergic response, 45 and suppression of Th17 cell development. The Euclidean distances (De) among 3 groups (N, O and Oa) are calculated as De(O, N) = 0.19, De(O, Oa) = 0.20, and De(N, Oa) = 0.10, i.e.…”

“…A few strains are also being marketed as probiotics adjuncts, contributing to GIT health by improving the microbial balance following diarrhea or antibiotic associated diarrhea (Franz, Huch, Abriouel, Holzapfel, & Gálvez, ; Tarasova et al, ). Other beneficial effects of Entrococci include their antiviral activity (Wang et al, ), protective antitumor effect (Castro et al, ), ability to lower cholesterol by excretion of deconjugated bile salts (Guo, Li, Tang, Yang, & Huo, ), and immune modulation (Molina et al, ). Currently, the only species within the Enterococcus genus that are intended for use as probiotics in the human and animal are E. faecalis and Enterococcus faecium (Franz et al, ).…”
