Beneficial use of ultrasound irradiation in synthesis of beta–clinoptilolite composite used in heavy oil upgrading process

Abstract: Beta–clinoptilolite composite synthesized in the presence of ultrasound irradiation exhibited high stability in heavy oil upgrading process while producing equal amount of light fuels and lower amount of coke compared to beta zeolite catalyst.

“…These processes usually take several hours or even days to achieve effective zeolite modification. However, there are other, more advanced methods, such as microwaves [61,62,191,192] and ultrasound [193][194][195], the use of which leads to a sharp decrease in processing time, down to very few hours or even minutes. Often, such processes are accompanied by increasing the ion exchange level [61,191,193,195]; they do not have a destructive effect on the zeolitic framework [61,191,192].…”

“…6, all the samples show type IV isotherms with H3 hysteresis loop which conrms the slitshaped mesoporous structure of the catalysts. 47,48 Little adsorption at low relative pressure (below 0.2) can be attributed to the micropores, while adsorption at relative pressure above 0.7 originated from the presence of mesopores. 35 A similar result was obtained by Obeso-Estrella et al 49 Furthermore, the pore diameter distribution of the samples resulted from Barrett-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) calculation indicated narrow distributions at low fuel content.…”
