Benefit-Risk Assessment of Statins (Lipid Lowering Agents): A Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis

Abstract: Background Benefit‐risk assessment (BRA) concept has been increasingly used in drug evaluation, and multi‐criteria decision analysis (MCDA) is one of the recommended BRA tools. The objective of this study was to assess benefits and risks of statins (lipid lowering agents) by MCDA, based on patient's, clinical expert's and policymaker's perspectives. “…When data was collected through surveys (Wagner et al, ; Wahlster, Goetghebeur, Schaller, Kriza, & Kolominsky‐Rabas, ; Mobinizadeh, Raeissi, Nasiripour, Olyaeemanesh, & Tabibi, ; Poulin et al, ), the number of participants (when available) was relatively significant (11, 30, and 54). One study (Wanishayakorn and Ngorsuraches, ) interviewed three stakeholders to gather their respective viewpoints. Two other studies (Hajek et al, ; Youngkong, Baltussen, et al, ) chose to involve stakeholders through workshops with a relatively small number of participants (seven and 10).…”

“…To achieve this, it is necessary to compare pair by pair the value of the net equity under management of all the entities participating in the ranking separately in each evaluation category. One of the ways to evaluate a set of alternatives based on their performance in a set of criteria is through multi-criteria methods in decision-making (Wanishayakorn and Ngorsuraches, 2016). These methods have been used in many fields of study in situations which involve selection, ranking, classifications or a set of alternatives' description evaluated according to their performances in a set of criteria.…”
