Benzothiazole-Linked Metal-Free Covalent Organic Framework Nanostructures for Visible-Light-Driven Photocatalytic Conversion of Phenylboronic Acids to Phenols

Abstract: Herein, we have reported two benzothiazole-linked covalent organic framework nanostructures (BTZ-BCA-COF and BTZ-TPA-COF), which have been prepared via a highly efficient one-pot, multicomponent transition-metal-free C−H functionalization and oxidative annulation synthetic strategy and employing elemental sulfur as one of the key components. These prepared COFs are highly crystalline in nature, have high surface area, and are chemically stable. These COFs exhibit light-harvesting capacity as a photosensitizer … Show more

“…The peaks at 2θ=6.01°, 6.95° and 9.17° in PD‐COF can be assigned to the planes (110), (200) and (210) respectively [15] . Also, the presence of two very low intensity peaks at 2θ=12 & 12.3° for PD‐COF and only one low intense peak at 2θ=12.5° for TF‐COF can be attributed to (120) plane [16] . The broad peaks in the 2θ value ranging 26°–28° in PD‐COF and TF‐COF occur due to the π‐π staking of the 2D COF layers which arises from (001) plane [17] .…”

“…Porous organic polymers ( POP s) possesses chemical tunability due to a wide range of building blocks accompanied by high surface area as well as high chemical and thermal stability, low skeletal density, and adjustable chemical functionalities, which have attracted the attention of recent researchers to exploit the pressing needs of developing multifunctional materials, utilized in various fields ranging from gas adsorption and separation to catalysis. Furthermore, POP s will be ideal candidates to illustrate their CO 2 adsorption capacity as well as visible-light-driven CO 2 fixation ability due to the presence of abundant heteroatoms for strong CO 2 affinity and π-electron delocalization in the extended conjugated framework nanoarchitecture that can easily create photogenerated electrons. POP s with extended π-conjugations also exhibit a wider visible-light absorption range and a more tunable position of the valence band (VB) and conduction band (CB) in comparison with inorganic semiconductor materials, which provides a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between sustainability and efficiency in the field of heterogeneous photocatalysis.…”

“…These COFs were applied for the conversion of phenylboronic acid to phenol under visible-light irradiation with excellent photocatalytic activity and stability attributes. 55 Recently, the Ag@DhaTph-COOH-polyurethane cross-linked polymer with antiviral and antibacterial properties as a bioprotective face mask was developed. The one-pot three-component Doebner reaction was employed to obtain a quinolinecarboxylic acid-linked DhaTph-COOH (hydroxyl-enriched porphyrin-COF) via applying 2,5-dihydroxylterephthalaldehyde (Dha), 5,10,15,20-tetrakis (4-aminophenyl) porphyrin (Tph), and pyruvic acid (PA) as the monomers.…”
