The anti-inflammatory action of the lysolecithin degrading enzyme PLB was tested. For this purpose PLB was highly purified from Penicillium notatum. The purified enzyme showed anti-inflammatory activity in two different tests using Al (OH)₃ and bentonite as inflammatory agents. There was also some immunosuppressive action by PLB, when adjuvants were used for the induction of an immune response against BSA.

Im Verlaufe des Kornwachstums durchläuft die Phospholipase B der Gerste, die aus Lecithin beide Fettsäuren abspaltet, etwa 13 Tage nach der Blüte ein Maximum. Danach fällt die Aktivität stark ab. Das reife Korn besitzt nur noch eine geringe, aber deutlich nachweisbare Restaktivität. Die Mitwirkung des Enzyms bei der Bildung von Lysolecithin und seiner Einlagerung in das Stärkekorn wird diskutiert.

Phospholipase D containing water insoluble fraction was isolated from mature barley; the enzym preparation only had weak phospholipase B activity. The phospholipase D of barley was activated by Ca2+, diethyl ether and sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS); EDTA inhibited the enzyme to an extent of 10% of the original activity. Diethyl ether and SDS showed and additive effect. Phospholipase D activated by CaC12, diethyl ether and SDS exhibited a sharp optimum at pH 6.6. Lysophosphatidylcholine was hydrolysed much slower than phosphatidylcholine. Diethyl ether and SDS also increased the breakdown of the lysophosphatidylcholine.
