“…The individual fractions were collected at 5-min intervals, the volume being about 1-5 ml. The separation of PBI and iodide was similar to that described by Scriba et al (1966). After the iodide had been washed out of the column, another 1 ml of inactive plasma was put on it to wash out the residual thyroxine on the dextran gel.…”

“…( 1 ) Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) precipitation ; 2 ml of 15 % TCA were added to 2 ml plasma and the precipitate was washed three times with 2 ml of 5 % TCA. (2) Filtration on Sephadex G-25; a modification of the method described by Scriba, Landgraf, Heinze & Schwarz (1966) was used; plasma (1 ml) was filtered on the column of Sephadex G-25 (20 cm long and 1 cm in diameter) and washed with tris buffer (pH 7-4) with the aid of a peristaltic pump. Five columns were washed simultaneously, each of them being surrounded by a double glass wall and kept at a constant temperature of 25 + 0-1°C by circulating water heated in an ultrathermostat.…”
