Beta-decay energies and masses of short-lived isotopes of rubidium, caesium, francium, and radium

Abstract: Abstract. Total decay energies have been measured for a number of neutron-deficient Rb and Cs isotopes, as well as for some neutron-rich isotopes of Fr and Ra. Mass separated sources were produced at the ISOLDE on-line separator at CERN. By applying two different /3-7 coincidence methods, Q values or their lower limits were determined for 76 78Rb ' 80Rb ' 121-124Cs ' 222Fr ' z24-Z26Fr ' 229Ra 229Ac" For many of these nuclei, the atomic mass excesses could be derived, allowing the comparison of masses of far un… Show more

“…In the A= 121 decay chain, gamma transitions belonging to ~alXe have been identified at CERN for the first time [14]. Later, collective structures in ~2tXe have been established from in-beam experiments using the 11~ p2n) [15] and the 112Cd(aZC, 3n) 1-16, 1] reactions.…”

“…The quoted value is the currently accepted half-life. This value is consistent with the currently adopted value of 0.30(5) s. bidium, caesium, francium, and radium" [102]. Lanthanum, yttrium-lanthanum, and thorium-lanthanum targets were irradiated with 600 MeV protons from the CERN synchrocyclotron.…”

“…The coincidence data show that 491 and 925keV transitions feed the 388keV level and that the 879keV transition feeds the ground state. The log ft values were obtained by taking T1/2 = (98.6 _+ 0.1) s [12], I~ + (388)/I~ + (ground state) = 31/54 [13] and QEc = (4760 4-100) keV, which is the average value between Q~c=(4690_+140)keV [9] and Q~c=(4830___ 140) keV [14]. The log f values were taken from tables given by Gove et al [15,16].…”

“…The decay of the 126Ba---~126Cs---~126Xe chain was investigated by Arlt et al [5,6], Blinowska et al [3] and recently by Pathak et al [7]. Levels in ~24Xe have been previously investigated by Droste et al [2], Arlt et al [8], and Westgaard et al [9]. In these experiments the levels of xenon were populated from the decay of ~24Cs and/or the 124Ba__ + 124Cs ~ 124Xe chain.…”
