Beta-strength and anti-neutrino spectra from total absorption spectroscopy of a decay chain 142Cs→142Ba142La

Abstract: Abstract. Beta decays of mass A = 142 isobaric chain starting from 142 Cs have been investigated by means of Modular Total Absorption Spectrometer (MTAS) and on-line mass separation at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The beta strength distribution derived for 142 Cs decay from MTAS spectra is showing significant differences in β-feeding pattern when compared to the values listed at nuclear databases. MTAS results are shifting the associated anti-neutrino energy spectrum towards lower energies. A decay pattern d… Show more

“…The recent review [34] points to the importance of TAS measurement allowing the derivation of true β-strength distributions and their consequences. The world largest and most efficient array, the Modular Total Absorption Spectrometer (MTAS) was designed, constructed and commissioned at the Holifield Radioactive Ion Beam Facility (HRIBF) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) to perform total gamma absorption measurements of complex β decays, in particular of fission products [5,18,[35][36][37][38][39]. The MTAS segmentation facilitates reliable analysis of the decay patterns involving several cascading γ rays and ground state feeding [19][20][21].…”
