Bi-Objective Adaptive Large Neighborhood Search Algorithm for the Healthcare Waste Periodic Location Inventory Routing Problem

Abstract: There has been an unexpected increase in the amount of healthcare waste during the COVID-19 pandemic. Managing healthcare waste is vital, as improper practices in the waste system can lead to the further spread of the virus. To develop effective and sustainable waste management systems, decisions in all processes from the source of the waste to its disposal should be evaluated together. Strategic decisions involve locating waste processing centers, while operational decisions deal with waste collection. Althou… Show more

“…In addition, inventory route planning is also the focus of attention. Some scholars combined the periodic inventory routing problem with the location decision of designing a medical waste management system, and proposed a two-objective mixed integer nonlinear programming model to minimize operating costs and risks (Aydemir-Karadag, 2022). The use of efficient vehicle routing and scheduling solutions is beneficial to the recovery of the supply chain in the post-COVID-19 period, so scholars have important implications for the routing problem.Organizational performance…”

“…The lower the CRB, the higher the estimation accuracy that can be achieved. Therefore, it is hoped that, for the simulated indoor environment shown in Figure 2 , under the premise of meeting the indoor lighting conditions, by adjusting the different light source positions [ 8 ], the CRB of the surface to be measured is as small as possible, and then the position of the light source corresponding to the smallest CRB is found, that is [ 9 ], the light source layout with the best positioning performance [ 10 ].…”

“…The vast majority of such medical waste is generated by hospitals, while the rest of this waste is attributed to research centers, autopsy and mortuary centers, laboratories, and blood banks [3] . About 75 to 90 percent of the entire medical waste is claimed to be non-hazardous, and the remainder (i.e., 10 to 25 percent) is categorized as hazardous [4] . That part of medical waste that is not managed effectively brings a high probability of infection and injury for the working staff in this domain and even for common people.…”
