Bias correction of a gauge-based gridded product to improve extreme precipitation analysis in the Yarlung Tsangpo–Brahmaputra River basin

Abstract: Abstract. Critical gaps in the amount, quality, consistency, availability, and spatial distribution of rainfall data limit extreme precipitation analysis, and the application of gridded precipitation data is challenging because of their considerable biases. This study corrected Asian Precipitation Highly Resolved Observational Data Integration Towards Evaluation of Water Resources (APHRODITE) estimates in the Yarlung Tsangpo–Brahmaputra River basin (YBRB) using two linear and two nonlinear methods, and their i… Show more

“…A large number of studies have evaluated the performance of IMERG products in China [44][45][46]. Scholars generally agree that satellite-based precipitation products have different accuracies in different climates and altitudes [44], while the IMERG series products show a better performance over humid regions than over high elevation zones in China [1]. Among the three IMERG products, FR always has a better accuracy than ER and LR.…”

“…The spatial grid resolutions of all Coordinated Regional Climate Downscaling Experiment (CORDEX) Africa RCMs were set to longitude 0.44° and latitude 0.44°. In this study, five RCMs models such as CCLM4, RCA4, RACMO22T, HIRAM5 and REMO2009 were used (Luo et al , 2020). Nonlinear bias correction method was used to correct time series based on the mean and coefficient of variation.…”
