Godman had to give up teaching because he was dying of tuberculosis (Morris 1974, Porter 1983:75–76, Faul 1997 a , Carey 1999). In his last year of life he wrote a dozen nature essays for a Philadelphia weekly, Friend , and he may have been first to publish a regular series of nature essays.…”

“…Titian Ramsay Peale II (1799–1885) was born to Charles W. Peale in the same year that his older brother of that name died. In 1817 he was already drawing illustrations for Say's Entomology , and he served as Say's assistant on this trip (Poesch 1961:20–22, 1974, Porter 1983, 1985, Harmond 1997, Thomas 1999). Later, Say regretted that they had gone in winter rather than spring, when they would have seen more insects.…”
