Bibliometric Analysis of Dental Erosion (2011–2020)

Abstract

Background: Dental erosion is a disease that causes an irreversible loss of the dental hard tissue due to acids without the involvement of bacteria. During the past decade a rising tendency of the studies about dental erosion has been observed. Objectives: The aim of the present study was to describe the current trends in published scientific articles related to dental erosion between 2011-2020. Data of the authors, year and language of publication were analyzed.Material and methods: A bibliometric analysis of the articles published in Pubmed was conducted using the terms TS (dental erosion) and TS (tooth erosion) using Boolean operator AND. A sample of n=1090 articles published during the past ten years (2011-2020) was obtained. The variables analyzed were the language of the article, the year of publishing, the number of authors, the affiliations of the first and last author and the relationship between them. Results: The ranking of countries of origin of the first and last author according to the number of publications, led by Brazil, UK, and USA. When analyzing the type of article, it is observed that 79,4% of all publications belong respond to research articles. Conclusions: The main findings in this article will help to analyze the scientific results related to dental erosion, to evaluate the management strategies needed and to identify relevant issues which need to be addressed that will lead to future studies.
