Bibliometric and Visual Analysis of the Scientific Literature on Percutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (PENS) for Pain Treatment

Abstract: Background: Percutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (PENS) is a minimally invasive peripheral neuromodulation approach implemented against chronic neuropathic and mixed pain. This bibliometric study aims to quantitatively evaluate the output of PENS for pain treatment in the scientific literature. The main purpose is to stimulate research in the field and bridge potential scientific gaps. Methods: Articles were retrieved from the Web of Science (WOS) database. The search key term was “percutaneous electrical… Show more

“…The most important gap to be addressed is the standardization of methods and the definition of protocols, this gap is shown in other analgesic technique areas. 45 In other words, the lack of uniform application criteria can limit the judgment on the effectiveness of the technique. Although adductor canal block is a simple intervention, practitioners must customize their treatment strategy based on several variables.…”

“…Tus, the importance of the decisionmaking mechanism in diferent problems that await solutions in many diferent areas of life increases. Supply chain and energy have complex and dynamic decision-making processes [4,5], including management, scheduling, energy systems, optimization, network management, control systems, and many others. Terefore, decentralized decision making and distributed decision making are the particular ways of accomplishing in this feld.…”

“…The methodology aligns with established practices in bibliometric investigations. In these analyses, a single database is implemented to maintain consistency and precision in the results, avoiding data overlap from different sources [ 19 22 ]. A comprehensive examination of global literature concerning NIV in palliative care was conducted using the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) online database.…”
