Bifurcation preserving discretisations of optimal control problems

Abstract: The first order optimality conditions of optimal control problems (OCPs) can be regarded as boundary value problems for Hamiltonian systems. Variational or symplectic discretisation methods are classically known for their excellent long term behaviour.
