“…The number and distribution of eccrine glands and the size and number of nerve fibers are normal. 3 The origin of these lesions is unknown. Some authors have postulated that they are a result of hamartomatous formation of fat and connective tissue (fibrolipomatous hamartoma) and hypertrophy secondary to incomplete involution of the normal fetal subcutaneous plantar tissue.…”

“…1,2 The lesions have been described under different names, including bilateral congenital adipose plantar nodules, 3 precalcaneal congenital fibrolipomatous hamartomas, 4 benign anteromedial plantar nodules of childhood, 5 congenital piezogenic-like pedal papules,* bilateral congenital fatty heel pads, 6 and pedal papules in the newborn. 7 Case reports of the lesions usually consist of 3 or 4 cases.…”

“…In 1996 Larregue et al[ 3] reported 5 additional cases and proposed the term ‘precalcaneal congenital fibrolipomatous hamartoma’. Further reports described the same entity under various names, such as bilateral congenital adipose plantar nodules [4], benign anteromedial plantar nodules of childhood [5], bilateral congenital fatty heel pads [6] and hypertrophic infantile pedal papules [7]. The condition had been considered to be uncommon, but Greenberg and Krafchik [8] found it to be far more frequent than estimated earlier.…”

“…In some areas, the fibrous tissue extends into the lobules to surround a small group of adipocytes [14]. The fibrous tissue is not increased, and the size or number of nerve fibers is normal [4]. Some authors have observed mucin deposits in the center and periphery of the adipocyte lobes [1, 4].…”
