“…The correct use of this method requires that stringent standards be adhered to in order to ensure that cells scored as survivors (in the form of colonies) are indeed capable of prolonged proliferation after exposure to a cytotoxic agent. In our earlier reports, we had stated that cells must form colonies of at least 50 cells (2), but that figure was later increased to 65 to 75 cells (6) …”

In any such study of EEG asymmetry, some subjects show more pronounced task effects than do other subjects.…”

“…It has been known from early EEG investigations that the alpha rhythm recorded in the resting and relaxed state with eyes closed is suppressed when strenuous mental activity, such as mental arithmetic, is undertaken (Berger, 1932;Adrian & Matthews, 1934). This effect has since been quantified by, among others, Mundy-Castle (1957), Glass (1964), Pollen and Trachtenberg (1972), Osborne and Gale (1976), although under certain conditions of mental activity, enhancement, not attenuation, of alpha rhythm has been observed (Kreirman & Shaw, 1965;Dolce & Waldeier, 1974). The 'U-shaped' relation between the presence or abundance alpha rhythm and the arousal continuum must be noted in this context.…”
