Bilateral kidneys involvement of collecting duct carcinoma with cystic change

Abstract: RationaleCollecting duct carcinoma (CDC) is a rare neoplasm arising from the collecting duct and should be distinguished from other renal cell carcinomas that mostly originated from the proximal tubular epithelium and tumors originated from the urothelium. It usually occurs in unilateral kidney, sometimes found with cystic change.Patient concernsWe present the case of a 53-year-old male suffering from repeated bilateral flank pain for 6 months, increased pain with dysuria for 5 days.DiagnosisUltrasound showed … Show more

“…Cystic renal cell carcinoma (CRCC) composed entirely of numerous cysts, the septa of which contain small groups of clear cells indistinguishable from grade Ι clear cell carcinoma [ 1 ]. Collecting duct carcinoma is rare, accounting for < 1 % of renal malignancies, especially for cystic tumors [ 2 ]. It is interesting that CRCC and cystic collecting duct carcinoma (CCDC) share similar oncogenic, histologic features and some imaging findings [ 3 ].…”
