Hawke and Donohue (1951) described a child with bilateral necrosis of the caudate nucleus, putamen, and globus pallidus developing during the course of otitis media without any known episode of anoxia. During two months of survival the child neither spoke nor responded to commands, although she would occasionally cry and withdraw from a painful stimulus.…”
