BIM to BEM Transition for Optimizing Envelope Design Selection to Enhance Building Energy Efficiency and Cost-Effectiveness

Abstract: This article focuses on developing an energy simulation model through Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Building Energy Modeling (BEM)to optimize energy in building design in Vietnam. Reducing the energy consumption in buildings will help reduce operating costs, impact the environment, and increase the efficiency of buildings. However, there is limited research on buildings with complex structures and configurations, detailed surface design, and envelope construction, especially in simulating details thr… Show more

“…Insight also suggests optimizations in both window design (to improve and take advantage of sunlight and natural light) and in the use of electronic devices to take advantage of low electricity consumption in terms of schedules and the natural lighting of the building spaces. In addition to using photovoltaic panels, the program suggests the orientation and number of devices for the building's consumption as developed [51]. The above is suitable for optimizing the model and conducting comparative studies between different developments and their uses.…”

“…The above is suitable for optimizing the model and conducting comparative studies between different developments and their uses. However, for this study, only the energy consumption of the models is necessary for subsequent analysis derived from the materials used, which was also developed by [51,52].…”

“…BIM tools also grant a proper platform for implementing additional features for performance assessment into a building model [69]. Table A4 (as shown in Appendix A) shows the recent work performed in BIM, especially in buildings [70][71][72][73][74][75][76][77][78].…”

“…This collaborative method increases efficiency, minimizes errors, and improves project outcomes in budget management, adherence to timelines, and quality assurance. According to [13], BIM usage also enables project teams to explore various design options through simulations and analysis. This empowers them to identify optimized solutions that align with project goals and minimize potential risks.…”
